TL;DR
- Almost everything an association sells sits around a fixture it does not control, and that is fine: the fixture stays where it is.
- Aussie Hoops, run by Basketball Australia, sells as a block; midweek skills and representative training behave differently again.
- Court hours between fixtures are a product in their own right rather than dead time on a spreadsheet.
- Development squads fill first and stay full, so the queue that forms when one does is the thing worth getting right.
Basketball in Australia is heavily structured around domestic competition, and most of what a club or academy sells sits around that fixture: an entry-level program for the youngest players, skills sessions midweek, development or representative training on top, and shooting or small-group work booked into whatever court time is left. AllSquads is built for that layer, not for running the competition itself.

Aussie Hoops and the entry-level end
Basketball Australia's Aussie Hoops is the national entry-level program, and clubs typically run it as a short block of weekly sessions for primary-age children before they move into a domestic team. On AllSquads it is a term enrolment: one price for the block, sessions generated from the weekly pattern, and a roster the coordinator opens on their phone. Parents book and pay in the same step, and every parent who books becomes a contact record you can message directly next time the block opens.
Skills sessions and development squads
The midweek skills session is where the admin actually piles up, because it is the format families dip in and out of. Publish it as a recurring class and the platform keeps generating sessions on the pattern you set rather than waiting for someone to add next month by hand. Turn drop-in on and a casual player can buy a single session at its own price without enrolling for the block; they appear on the same roster, labelled as a drop-in, and they count against the same capacity. Development squad training that is genuinely closed can be published link-only or invite-only so it never shows up in public search.
Court time around the fixture
Stadium court time is the scarcest thing a basketball club has, and it is usually sold in short blocks between fixtures. Facility hire handles it as half-hour increments against live availability, with a member rate for registered players and a separate evening rate for the hours everybody wants. A coach running small-group shooting work every Wednesday can set the series to repeat for up to twelve weeks and cancel the lot in one action if the season shifts.
What a season looks like across the programs
The formats below all run through the same club page and settle into the same weekly payout, but they fill, price and cancel differently.
| Program | Typical age | Billing shape | Capacity behaviour |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aussie Hoops block | Primary school | One price for the block | Waitlist opens when the block is full |
| Midweek skills | Junior and teen | Term price, or drop-in per session | Drop-ins share the session capacity |
| Development squad | Selected players | Term enrolment, often invite-only | Invite-only, so no public waitlist |
| Court hire | Any | Half-hour blocks, member rate available | The slot leaves availability once booked |
When a session fills
Capacity is set per class and the waitlist turns itself on when the class is full, so nobody has to keep a list in a notebook. Waitlisted players are notified in the order they joined, and a spot is strictly first-come, first-served: there is no hold and no expiry window, so the notification tells people to book promptly. If someone else takes the spot first, the player who missed it goes back into the queue rather than being quietly dropped. Joining a waitlist also creates a contact record, which means a full Tuesday squad is a list of interested families you can message when you open a second one.
Getting paid without chasing anybody
Everything taken through the club page across Monday to Sunday is transferred to the club's account the following week as a single payout, with an itemised breakdown per booking behind it. Stripe's processing fee is absorbed by AllSquads rather than shown as a separate deduction. A club can publish programs and start taking bookings before it has finished connecting its bank details; the money simply accrues and the payout stays pending until onboarding is complete. The figure shown against a payout counts players, not bookings, so it matches what you would count standing on the sideline.
Which setup fits you?
You run several programs at once and cannot see which is actually working
Good fitReporting is the reason to do this rather than the booking. Retention, revenue and how much of a waitlist converts are all visible per program, so the decision about which squad to run again next season stops being a committee opinion.
You want your domestic fixture managed here
Worth knowingIt is not, and pretending otherwise would cost you a season. Draws, grading and results live with your association's competition system. This handles the programs around the fixture and the court hours the fixture leaves behind.
Your stadium is council-run and you only get an allocation
Worth knowingThat works, with one condition worth checking first. Only publish the hours you genuinely control. Where the council releases courts week to week, the honest arrangement is to run programs here and leave casual court sales to whoever holds the allocation.
